This BusinessWeek story reports on significant increases in snacking by our children. Reporting on a study by the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, researchers found that "children snack almost three times a day in the U.S. and get about 27 percent of their daily calories from salty, fatty and sugary treats." There is a notable increase since the 1970s.
