“I wonder how we are going to compete to bring jobs here if we don’t have a healthy workforce.”
- Carlos, Dad of three, ages 3, 9 and 11.“We’re spending more every day just trying to keep up with diabetes and all kinds of health issues brought on by living like its okay to be inactive.”
- Robyn, healthcare worker and Mom of two, ages 2 and 4.
It’s a sad but startling fact that Ohio's kids are increasingly unfit, overweight and obese. Poor health has a lifetime impact on our kids. It is also costly for families, health care providers, our education system and ultimately for our community.
Kids can't maintain an active, healthy lifestyle on their own. It takes a community to encourage and accomplish healthy change. You can take an active role in our community-wide GetUp initiative:
- Click on the Partner Organizations tab to see who is already coming together to support GetUp! Encourage your school, organization, neighborhood store – everyone you know - to get involved.
- Keep up with the latest GetUp news by signing up for our online newsletter.
- Volunteer at your school, recreation center or local park. Serve as a mentor for an active play experience.
- Talk to others about what needs to change, and how we can collectively reduce the barriers that make it hard to live a healthy lifestyle. Click here to join a social networking group.
- Educate yourself on the policies that are being considered to encourage healthier living across the U.S., Ohio and in your neighborhood.
-
Organize a neighborhood group of parents, teachers and other concerned citizens who want to make a difference. Spread the 5-2-1-Almost None message!
-
Be a role model. Live the 5-2-1-Almost None lifestyle. Think, act and live a healthy lifestyle!
Raising healthy, active children is no easy task. Raising a healthy community is even more challenging. Both start with small steps. Lend yourself a helping hand by staying involved in your child's life and in your community. Check out the Parents Toolkit for helpful hints. We can GetUp together!
