“We used to play sand lot baseball all the time. Kids today don’t even know how. About the only body part getting regular exercise these days is their thumbs!”
- Harold, guardian grandparent of two, ages 8 and 12.“My kids just won’t eat fresh vegetables. I’m not even sure how to cook with them.”
- Denise, mom of three, ages 5, 6 and 8.
There are many simple ways to improve health and fitness. It's best to take small steps instead of attempting major change all at once. You'll find that living the 5-2-1-Almost None lifestyle is easy to incorporate in your daily schedule. And remember, you aren't alone in your journey. People all around our community are coming together to determine what may stand in the way and what we can do together to live the 5-2-1-Almost None lifestyle.
Check out ideas, helpful hints and materials in the Parent's Toolkit and a listing of local healthy activities on the GetUp calendar. And don't let winter slow you down! Layers make all the difference when playing outside in the cold. Check out these helpful clothing tips for winter runners and walkers from GetUp partner, Miles that Matter.
By taking these four easy steps, we can lead healthier lifestyles and become a healthier community.
